What Will Close and What Stays Open
Background — Who Was Zulfikar Ali Bhutto?
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and served as Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1973 to 1977. Born on January 5, 1928, in Larkana, Sindh, Bhutto is widely regarded as one of the most influential political figures in Pakistan’s history.
He was executed on April 4, 1979, following a controversial trial during the military government of General Zia ul-Haq. His death anniversary is observed every year, particularly in Sindh where his political legacy runs deepest. The Pakistan Peoples Party organises memorial gatherings, Quran Khawani, and prayer events across the province on this date.
Bhutto was the only son of Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto and pursued his education at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Oxford. He also served as President of Pakistan from 1971 to 1973 before becoming Prime Minister.
What This Means for You
If you have scheduled any official work — document submissions, government appointments, or paperwork at any Sindh provincial office — plan it before April 4 or after the holiday. Banks and private businesses will determine their own schedules, so confirm with your office or institution directly.
Citizens can also expect increased political activity and memorial gatherings, particularly around Larkana and nearby districts, as PPP workers and supporters mark the anniversary with events and processions.
